Galway is a key connection point in Ireland’s digital landscape
Galway is a key connection point in Ireland’s digital landscape; at Aurora Telecom we are helping to strengthen that link through our high-speed fibre optic backhaul network.
We’re expanding our core national footprint with a significant investment enhancing connectivity options for Galway-based customers. This development introduces three routes, north, east, and south, out of Galway, offering greater flexibility and resilience. We are happy to share progress on this key infrastructure project that will strengthen connectivity into Galway City for current and future customers.
Key project highlights include:
- The new extension ties into an existing gas pipeline on the eastern end, with colleagues in Gas Networks Ireland providing their expertise and supervision during the process.
- To minimise environmental impact and disruption, we have used a mole plough, a trenchless technology ideal for soft ground. This approach is both economically and environmentally efficient.
- Due to working along the motorway with TII , we have implemented a careful planning and traffic management due to heavy traffic flow.
Total line: 11.5 km
Existing TII duct: 10.8 km
New dig: 750 metres
Thank you to all our project partners including Circet IRE & UK for duct installation, showcasing how collaboration and innovation came together to deliver infrastructure that enables diverse connections and drives future opportunities for Galway City.
