Meet the Team: James Freeman, Fibre Design Manager
James brings a decade of hands-on experience in delivering fibre optic infrastructure across Ireland, along with a practical, solutions-focused approach to his role as Fibre Design Manager at Aurora Telecom.
James’s career has spanned the full project life-cycle — from early feasibility and route planning through to construction, vendor coordination, and final customer delivery. Today, he leads the planning and execution of expansion projects across our national network, supporting enterprise, public-sector, and wholesale connectivity across the country.
What James values most about his role is the ability to deliver meaningful, resilient infrastructure while navigating the technical and operational challenges that complex fibre infrastucure projects present.
A core part of James’s job is ensuring the effective delivery of services from design through to handover. He works closely with internal service delivery teams, project managers, contractors, and external stakeholders to ensure that network builds align with customer requirements, delivery timelines, and operational standards.
James plays an important role in coordinating build readiness, managing dependencies, and supporting smooth transitions from construction into live service. His approach prioritises build quality, long-term network resilience, and minimising risk to customer services. Through clear communication and structured delivery oversight, he helps ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and to a standard that supports ongoing operational performance.
James has significantly contributed to the delivery of several major projects, including the Cork to Dublin fibre backbone and regional network expansions in Galway, Mayo, and North Dublin — helping to strengthen connectivity where it matters most.
James is a past student of Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), having studied in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in the old Kevin Street building.
Kevin Street held special significance for James due to a long‑standing family connection to the building. His uncles, mother, father, and younger brother had all studied there, making his own time at Kevin Street both familiar and deeply memorable. The practical, hands‑on engineering experience he gained continues to influence his approach to fibre network design and service delivery today.
We’re delighted to have James on the team and value the expertise, consistency, and delivery-focused mindset he brings to Aurora Telecom.
